Kane joins Motorbase for Carrera Cup GB

Steven Kane is the latest star name to confirm plans to race in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB this season after signing with the Motorbase Performance team. The Co Down racer is one of Britain's rising stars and started in karts before winning the Junior Formula Ford title and the McLaren/BRDC/Autosport Young Driver of the Year Award in 2001. He subsequently raced for four seasons in British F3, but is now giving his career a fresh direction and is keen to follow in the wheeltracks of fellow F3 racer Danny Watts, one of the stars of the 2006 Carrera Cup GB."Doing the Carrera Cup keeps my name out there, and it is a very competitive championship where you can get noticed if you do well," says Kane. "I've raced a Porsche twice in the past, but it's going to be exciting to get to grips with a whole season. "There are so many good drivers lining up for the Carrera Cup for 2007 that it is hard to predict where I'll be,¬ particularly when you consider that I've only got one test before the start of the season. My single seater aspirations aren't over, but you have got to make the most of the budget you've got and the Carrera Cup was the best choice for me."Motorbase team boss David Bartrum is a big fan of the Irish racer and is delighted to have completed a strong three-car line-up. "I'm really chuffed," says Bartrum. "I've always wanted to get Steven into the team as I rate him very highly. It's good news for the championship and this is the right place for him to really re-establish his career."
