2006 INDIANAPOLIS 500 OPENING NOMINATED FOR SPORTS EMMY AWARD
INDIANAPOLIS, Wednesday, March 28, 2007 – The opening sequence for ABC Sports’ broadcast of the 2006 Indianapolis 500 was nominated for a Sports Emmy® Award by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on March 28 in New York.
Actor Kiefer Sutherland narrated the opening that led into ABC’s live coverage of the 90th edition of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, won by Sam Hornish Jr.
Winners will be announced at the 28th annual Sports Emmy Awards on Monday, April 30 at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York.
The Indianapolis 500 opening sequence was in elite company among the six nominees in the Outstanding Open/Tease category. The other nominees are the AFC Championship Game, NBA Finals, Super Bowl XL, final round of The Masters and XX Olympic Winter Games.
ABC Sports’ production won a Sports Emmy Award last year in the Outstanding Post Produced Audio/Sound category for its “Speed City Tease” during the 2005 Indianapolis 500 broadcast.
