Jordan challenges for BTCC podium
Mike Jordan challenged for podium finishes and came away with a fourth place after running bang on the pace in the opening rounds of the 2007 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch yesterday (Sunday 1 April).Jordan's Team Eurotech Honda Integra finished fourth in the opening race and was on target for a podium finish in the second race when he was knocked out of the race. That left him to start at the back of the grid for the third race, and another attacking drive took the John Guest Speedfit Honda through to ninth place at the finish."We've shown that we're right on the pace and it was a good start to the season," said Mike after a day of typical BTCC drama in front of a huge crowd. In the opening race, Mike battled in the seven-car lead pack and dived ahead of Tim Onslow-Cole into Druids with a classic move when the BMW ran wide at Paddock Hill Bend. Mike then chased defending champion Matt Neal to the flag to take a fine fourth. In race two, he was again in a big pack of cars battling for second place and got a strong run on the cars ahead of him out of Graham Hill Bend. However, with three cars abreast towards Surtees, Mike was tipped into a spin and did well to keep the car away from the barrier as it spun onto the grass at high speed. With the tracking knocked out of line, he elected to retire from the race and give the team maximum time to repair the Honda for the third race. "I was disappointed after the second race, because the car was good enough for a podium finish. We'd made a big set-up change before the race and got very, very good pace," he said.Starting from 22nd place on the grid for the third race, Mike was up four places in the first two corners. He then passed car after car in an attacking and determined drive and fought right through to ninth place, right on the tail of the leading pack for the final two laps.
