Jordan dominates BRC opener
Andrew Jordan dominated the opening round of the Kumho MSA British Rallycross Championship at the Lydden circuit in Kent on Easter Monday (9 April), but was denied victory in the final when a gearbox failure stopped his car while he was leading.Racing the 550bhp four-wheel drive Ford Focus built and run by the G-Tech team of former rallycross champion Will Gollop, 17-year old Andrew dominated the event, winning all three heats and the Supercar A final, as well as setting the fastest time of the day. Unfortunately, a clean sweep of victories was denied when the car faltered in the Superfinal."I couldn't have done any more," said Andrew, who was bitterly disappointed not to complete a clean sweep of victories. Having been beaten off the line in the Superfinal by John McCluskey, Andrew boldly dived ahead at the first corner. But just as he did, he recognised that he was in trouble as he lost all drive due to a gearbox problem. "I just lost drive in the front of the pack. McCluskey went over the front of me and Steve Hill hit me from behind. It wasn’t his fault, in the dust he didn’t see me," said Andrew. "I'm very disappointed because we dominated it today and it was going to be my race. But I’m now looking forward to round two at Pembrey in May."Despite the disappointment, which included considerable damage to the Ford Focus, Andrew received a very warm reception from the crowd as he walked back to the paddock. He is now even more determined to win at Pembrey and challenge for the British Rallycross crown.Andrew Jordan is supported by John Guest, Bill Gwynne Rally School and Pirtek.
