High-speed Hants track next stop

The clock is ticking: there are now less than two weeks to go before Britain’s biggest motor racing series – the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) – arrives in Hampshire on Sunday 6 May for its latest action-packed rounds at the UK’s fastest circuit, Thruxton near Andover.

Tens of thousands of spectators are expected to descend on the circuit to see BTCC stars including Matt Neal (Honda), Jason Plato (SEAT), Colin Turkington (BMW) and Italian favourite Fabrizio Giovanardi (Vauxhall) going doorhandle-to-doorhandle around Thruxton’s high-speed bends.

Admission for children aged 16 and under is FREE while adult tickets are still on sale at the discounted price of just £20.00 if booked in advance either via Thruxton’s website www.barc.net or by calling the circuit on 01264 882200*.

That price includes free access to the hugely popular Pit Lane Walkabout session when the public, including children, is invited to cross the track to meet the teams and drivers in the Pit Lane for autographs, photos and plenty of give-aways.

Headlining the timetable on 6 May are the BTCC’s latest three rounds plus another seven races from the supporting championships put on by high-profile manufacturers BMW, Porsche, Renault and SEAT. That’s ten races in total.

BTCC Series Director Alan Gow says: “BTCC race day at Thruxton is a must-see event. Its huge grass spectator banks, particularly around the first half of the lap, enable spectators to relax in a picnic environment while offering views of almost half the circuit.

“Furthermore, Thruxton is a circuit that every driver approaches with added trepidation. The speeds the cars reach there are significantly higher than any other circuit on the calendar, meaning plenty of thrills and spills for the crowds.

“Thruxton’s accessibility is also another bonus for fans – whether they are coming from the south-west, the Midlands or the London region the circuit is ideally placed, right next to the A303 dual carriageway. With free admission for children I cannot think of another day out that offers such great value for money entertainment. We very much look forward to welcoming the crowds on race day.”

* Advance ticket booking to be made by Wednesday 2 May 2007.
