Andrew Jordan takes seventh in Clios
Andrew Jordan finished seventh in the third round of the 2007 Elf Renault Clio Cup at Thruxton over the weekend (5/6 May), but was heading for fourth place in his John Guest Speedfit-backed Clio when the race was stopped early and the result taken back a lap.On Saturday morning Andrew qualified his Team Eurotech Clio third fastest for his heat, behind former touring car racer Stefan Hodgetts and Clio championship leader Ed Pead, and ahead of former Clio champion Jonathan Fildes.Knowing that all he wanted was a solid result to make certain of a place in Sunday's all-important final, Andrew drove with maturity in the heat to finish third, beating Pead in the process. That put him on the third row of the 38-car grid for Sunday's championship race."I made a very good start, but I think Jim Edwards got pushed into me and it knocked my car's front tracking out a bit," said Andrew. "After that it didn't turn in as well as it should have done."Despite that handling handicap, he ran strongly in the leading pack and settled into seventh place as the race developed. He was content to play a waiting game over the early laps and his chance came on the 13th lap when he moved through to fourth place. Unfortunately, another car then crashed out and the race was red-flagged, meaning that results were taken back to the end of lap 12, leaving Andrew seventh."Coming out of Church, Mark Speller ran wide and that delayed Jim Edwards and I was able to pass them both. But with the result put back a lap, I was back to seventh. But it was a great learning experience and I'm pleased with the way the race went."Andrew and the team now have a four-week break in the season before the next round at Croft in North Yorkshire on 2/3 June.Andrew Jordan is supported by John Guest, Bill Gwynne Rally School and Pirtek.
