Andrew Jordan charges to rallycross win
Andrew Jordan dominated the second round of the Kumho MSA British Rallycross Championship at Pembrey on Bank Holiday Monday (7 May), winning two heats and both finals to complete a remarkable day's racing.Racing the 550bhp four-wheel drive Ford Focus built and run by the G-Tech team of former rallycross champion Will Gollop, 17-year old Andrew dominated the event, and was only denied a clean sweep of victories when he was knocked into retirement in the second heat with damaged suspension.Andrew arrived at Pembrey straight from Thruxton where he had been racing in the Renault Clio Cup the previous day, and was immediately setting the pace in the Ford Focus. In the first heat, run on a wet track, he was dominant as he won by a considerable margin. However, in the rush to the first corner in the second heat Andrew was knocked into retirement after contact from a rival left him with broken suspension. The team worked hard to repair the car for the third heat and Andrew repaid that work by winning from the front.Knowing that he needed another good result for a front row grid position in the all-important A final, Andrew went into the Supercar final. From the start he ran second to Ollie O'Donovan, but pulled off a sensational move to pass his rival round the outside of Honda Curve to win by five-hundredths of a second. "It was a breath-taking move," said Andrew's father Mike."I set him up the lap before and had to put two wheels onto the grass to get round him. I was very pleased with that," said Andrew. That stunning move also earned him pole position for the A final and he went on to dominate the race, winning from the front. "That was just the result we needed to get our championship bid on track," said Andrew.Next stop for the Kumho MSA British Rallycross Championship is Lydden (Kent) on Whit Monday (28 May).Andrew Jordan is supported by John Guest, Bill Gwynne Rally School and Pirtek.Andrew is an MSA British Race Elite Driver.
