In Sunday’s GP2 Series sprint race at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain, FMS International’s Antonio Pizzonia finished in eighth place after starting 19th, while his team-mate Jason Tahinci was forced into retirement when he was hit from behind on the fourth corner of the first lap.
Antonio Pizzonia: “I had a good start and the first lap was good - I managed to pass a few guys. But obviously it’s still a disappointing result for us because we’ve had four races and we haven’t scored any points yet. I think we are working in the right direction, the team did a really good job the whole weekend and we’ve been working a lot better. Qualifying affected our whole weekend really so now I’m just looking forward to Monaco. I enjoy the track a lot and it’s my home race so we’ll see what happens but hopefully we can begin our season there.”
Jason Tahinci: “I don’t know what to say about this weekend. I obviously started last due to incident yesterday, but I got a good start and passed a lot of people on the first and second corners. I was a bit cautious on the third corner and I held my position into the fourth corner and then I was bumped on my right rear tyre by someone. It wasn’t enough to damage the car but it put me off into the gravel. The marshals couldn’t get me back onto the circuit so that was the end of that.”
Paolo Coloni, Team Principal: “With Antonio it’s the first time we’ve finished the race this year, so that was important to collect information. He had a very good start on the inside line, and then it was important for us to finish the race. I think it would have been possible to get a point. Jason also made a good start, and it was a shame he got hit. Antonio’s car was consistent through the race, but I think the rhythm was just not quite there yet to secure a point. But for sure it’s a step forward for us.”
