Oschersleben was the location for the second round of the German Formula 3 Championship last weekend (May 12th and 13th). Frédéric Vervisch came to Oschersleben as championship leader. The target was to score as many points as possible , a mission in which Frédéric succeeded. The 20-year-old Belgian climbed the rostrum twice.
In the first race, Frédéric started next to his team mate Nico Verdonck on the first row of the grid, only 13 thousands separating both drivers. Frédéric took the lead at the start and was followed by Carlo Van Dam and Recardo Bruins. On the sixth lap, it started raining and the leading drivers chose to stay out on slicks in order not to loose time with a tyre change. Until the last lap, Frédéric was in the lead in very bad weather conditions. But then he was passed by his team mate Verdonck. “I slowed down in the last lap in order not to risk a good finishing position, but Nico took profit from it by overtaking me”, Frédéric told after the race.
Also in the second race, Frédéric started from the first row of the grid. This time, next to Carlo Van Dam. The Dutchman won the start. Frédéric was attacked by Recardo Bruins, but succeeded to hold him off and after a few laps Fred could finally start the pursuit of Van Dam. Frédéric closed the gap to one and a half seconds and finished in second place again. Frédéric told afterwards: “When I had finally shaken off Bruins, I tried to close in on Van Dam. But his lead was already too big.”
Frédéric Vervisch: “We finished the weekend on a positive note. We were in front and our pace was good. Two second places are not bad and we are still in front in the championship standings. It is very important to keep performing like this and to take points regularly. Everyone at JB Motorsport did his very best to make it possible to achieve a good result like this.”
The third meeting of the ATS F3 Cup will take place on July 8th and 9th, during the weekend of the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring.
