Tom Hornsby reported on the GP2 Series for Bridgestone Bridgestone, exclusive tyre supplier to the GP2 Series, took the first finalist of the 2007 Bridgestone e-reporter competition to Barcelona for the Spanish Grand Prix (11-13 May). Aspiring sports journalist Tom Hornsby, from Oxford, UK, was reporting on GP2 for the Bridgestone website, bridgestone.eu/e-reporter, writing race reports and diary entries.
Hornsby, a Sports Journalism student, witnessed driver Bruno Senna (Arden International) take his first ever race win in GP2, the feeder series to Formula One, in Saturday’s race (12 May) and driver Timo Glock (iSport International) take his first victory of the season in Sunday’s race (13 May). As an e-reporter in the GP2 paddock, Hornsby interviewed numerous drivers including Timo Glock (iSport International), Mike Conway (Super Nova), Antonio Pizzonia (FMS International), Andreas Zuber (iSport International) and Nicolas Lapierre (Dams). Hornsby also took the opportunity to interview various GP2 team bosses and met up with ITV F1 commentator and e-reporter judge, James Allen, who offered advice on how to get started as a motorsport journalist.
Commenting on his invaluable experience at the Spanish Grand Prix, Hornsby said: “The Bridgestone e-reporter competition has given me a fantastic opportunity to experience motorsport journalism at the highest level in a way that only the most privileged student could. Nothing was too much trouble for the Bridgestone representatives to organise and they were only too willing to set up meetings with drivers and journalists alike. “Being in Barcelona this weekend has allowed me to meet some of the most respected names in motorsport journalism and broadcasting, providing me with contacts and opportunities for a future career in the media that others simply do not have.”
The next Bridgestone e-reporter finalist, out of the seven selected for this year, will be Michael William Scott (from Addlestone, UK) who will attend the French Grand Prix at Magny-Cours from 29 June to 1 July. The overall winner of Bridgestone e-reporter, who demonstrates the most journalistic flair while reporting from the GP2 paddock, will be awarded a state-of-the-art laptop; the chance to interview a GP2 graduate who has made the step up to drive in Formula One; further invaluable work experience; and a trip to attend a Bridgestone safety event (afetyatheart.eu).
The overall winner of the pan-European 2007 Bridgestone e- reporter competition will be announced at the GP2 end of season finale in Valencia.
