Spain’s hot sun shone on International Formula Master’s (IFM) first day of testing in Valencia yesterday as teams prepared for the Series' inaugural race on Saturday.
Whilst some drivers completed as many as 35 laps this morning alone, others had some last minute preparations to do and none more so than Spanish driver Adrian Campos Jr, son of GP2 Campos Racing team owner, Adrian Campos.
The 18-year-old was added to Euronova Racing’s driver line-up at the last minute and replaces Japan’s Keiko Ihara who cannot race for the team this weekend due to commitments in Japan.
Another addition to IFM’s fleet of young drivers, is Englishman Jon Barnes. The 23-year-old was confirmed today as Team JVA’s driver alongside Tor Graves.
Luca Persiani claimed the day’s fastest time this morning racing his Formula S2000 around the Valencia circuit in 1:27.865. The Italian races for Scuderia Fama and puts his performance down to a dedicated team and a great set-up. This afternoon’s session saw Cram Competition’s Jerome D’Ambrosio post a top time of 1.28:799.
Adrian Campos Jr, Euronova Racing
“I only found out I was racing yesterday afternoon so today was about getting used to the car. I didn’t do as many laps as I wanted but I know the track very well which should help. I don’t know the car at the moment but it seems easy to drive.”
Luca Persiani, Scuderia Fama
“The car has been going really well, it’s well hooked up I think. I feel really good on this track too so I can’t wait for the weekend. I think I’m ready and the team has been working really hard, they’re very good. It’s okay to be at the top at the moment but the hard part is to stay there!”
Jerome D’Ambrosio, Cram Competition
“It’s nice to top the timesheets this afternoon but it would be better to be number one for the whole day... I can improve over the next few days though and I like this circuit so this weekend should be good.”
