Bumper entry for Angleseys opener
Competitors have responded enthusiastically to the redevelopment of the Anglesey circuit with the BRSCC receiving over 210 entries for the opening race meeting on 26/27 May.The BRSCC's North Western Centre will have the honour of running the first race meeting on the new 1.55-mile 'coastal' circuit at the North Wales venue, which has been totally redeveloped over the last nine months.Eight categories will gather at Anglesey for the 21-race weekend, with qualifying from 10am on Saturday followed by the first seven races. The first of 14 races on Sunday will start at 10.25am.The honour of scoring the first race win on the new track will go to one of the drivers in the North West Formula Ford Championship, where almost 50 cars have entered for a pair of races on each day. Also split across four races are 40 entries for the Stoneguard Mono Championship and one of these rapid single-seaters is likely to set the first outright circuit record on the coastal circuit, one of four layout options now available at Anglesey. Brothers Neil and Mark Harrison from Worcester in their 1998 Formula 3 Dallaras could be vying to set the fastest laps of the weekend.Other excellent entries include the Ford Fiesta Championship (34 cars) and the Ford Saloon Championship (30 cars), while Anglesey will be represented by local ace John-Ifan Jones in his Ford Escort XR3i in the Ford XR Challenge races. Completing the programme will be double-headers for the MGCC Cockshoot Cup, the Porsche 924 Championship and the Irish Global Lights Series, with 15 drivers using the high-speed ferry from Dublin to nearby Holyhead in order to race at Anglesey."The BRSCC ran the first race meeting at Anglesey when the original circuit opened in 1997," said circuit manager Richard Peacock. "So it is very fitting that the club has the first event on the re-developed track. We are delighted to see well over 200 cars entered for this weekend. That's a real vote of support for all the work done to rebuild the track."
