Scotland’s biggest modified car event of the year is expected to draw thousands of motoring enthusiasts from all over the UK to Crail Airfield this Sunday (May 27th 2007), when car bible, Max Power, returns to Scotland for its first visit of the year.
Attracting over 5000 people in past years, the bank holiday event is expected to draw an even larger audience for 2007. Crowds will be able to see some of the world’s top stunt drivers, including, Terry Grant, who returns to Crail Raceway for the Max Power event with an all new display for Scotland. With a staggering fifteen world records to his credit, Grant performs to astonished crowds across Europe.
Grant’s eclectic mix of high-performance machinery includes several Legend race cars, a Ferrari F40, two TVRs, and various hot Japanese cars including a WRC-spec Impreza and highly tuned Mitsubishi Evo.
Appearing alongside Grant will be the unique Dutch jet quad, ‘Pyromaniac’, driven by Michel Kooy. Now a firm favourite at Crail, Pyromaniac – which has the ability to accelerate to 60 mph in just one second - has not performed in Scotland for over three years. Developed in Holland the unique ‘Pyromaniac’ is driven by a helicopter, Rolls Royce jet engine, equipped with an afterburner. The team designed the technology to convert a shaft turbine into a thrust engine
The Max Power events staged at Crail Raceway are the busiest of the season and numbers are set to increase this year with a growing line up of attractions as part of the day’s schedule. The event also attracts families; therefore there will be a child friendly zone including bouncy castles, inflatable slides and trampolines set up on the day.
Spectators can also look to the skies for entertainment, as ‘The Golden Lions’ Scottish Infantry Parachute Display Team, freefall from above, reaching speeds of over 120mph, trailing smoke for thousands of feet, before safely deploying their parachutes.
On the main stage – sponsored by Corona – will be DJ’s Stevie K, Ped, Cohn O’Dea and Paul Strachan. There will also be appearances throughout the day from Wave 102 presenter, Dave Moran, with audience participation, competitions and cash prizes.
Meanwhile, the search for the best ‘Show & Shine’ vehicles that Scotland has to offer will continue as part of the day’s schedule. Demo vehicles from major In Car Entertainment (ICE) and performance specialists will also be at the event.
The Max Power team will be on the look out to feature those in ‘action’ on the strip and drift/sprint track in the magazine.
As well as the ‘Run What You Brung’ action on the ¼ mile drag strip, which takes place on the mile long runways of the 350 acre, WWII air base, there will be a number of club and trade stands and an indoor marquee with bar. There will be further entertainment from the burnout and drifting challenge at the drift track.
The only requirement to take part at Crail is a valid UK driving licence and a £15 signing-on fee, which entitles participants to unlimited runs and the new drift/sprint track. At the end of the day personal performance print-outs showing reaction times to the start lights, 60', 1/8 mile, ¼ mile times, and top speed will be given out – personal times can also be easily accessed through crailraceway.co.uk
All Show & Shine entrants and club stands must be on site by 11am. For those wishing to put up a stand at the tented trade area, please contact the organisers for availability – 01333 451 836.
