Shelsley Walsh June meeting preview

The fastest accelerating racing cars in the country make their first visit of 2007 to the world's oldest racing track at Shelsley Walsh in Worcestershire on the weekend of 2nd and 3rd June as the Midland Automobile Club stages the MSA British Hill Climb Championship rounds 11 and 12 of this years title chase.

The friendly and accessible nature of the competitors means that spectators can enjoy a chat in the paddock but the pleasantness disappears at the moment each car hits the track and the chase for championship points will be fierce.  On the entry list are all of the leading contenders for 2007 including Martin Groves who is the reigning British Hill Climb Champion and the Father and Son duo of Roger and Scott Moran who are joint leaders of the championship prior to rounds 9 and 10 which are being staged on the Bank Holiday weekend of 26th and 27th May. Groves made an uncharacteristic zero points start to the campaign with a mechanical failure that prevented him taking his class runs in rounds 1 and 2 at Easter, but he is now stalking the leading two and has them clearly in his sights.

The new Shelsley Walsh track surface which proved a hit with club and one-make championship competitors at the first meeting of the season is bound to attract extra effort from the MSA Championship entrants as they aim for the top. If the weather is kind, expect an all-out assault on the hill record of 23.75 seconds which was set by Martin Groves in a run of enormous commitment and style at last years August meeting.

Also staged will be a round of the MSA Hill Climb Leaders Championship the scoring of which is based on class wins and a round of the Midland Hill Climb Championship will also be contested.

Shelsley Walsh is on a minor road between Martley and Stanford Bridge in Worcestershire approximately 11 miles north west of Worcester. Special road signs will be in place.
