BRITAIN’S TOP CLASSIC RALLY CELEBRATES FIFTH ANNIVERSARY WITH RECORD ENTRY AND GUEST PADDY HOPKIRK… UK RALLYING’S ICONIC 1960s HERO!
The CES UK Three Castles Welsh Classic Trial again runs from its traditional base in Llandudno, North Wales, from May 31st to June 2nd this year… its 5th anniversary year. With a record entry of 125 glorious cars from all over the world dating from the 1920’s through to the 1970’s, the event has developed into what many say is Britain’s top international classic car rally.
‘I’d like to see the event become recognised as the Chelsea Flower Show of classic rallying’ says founder and Event Director, Ian Crammond. ‘At just three days, it isn’t the longest in terms of time, but I believe its quality is recognised as outstanding….’
The Three Castles has always been known for innovation, and in 2007, there’s an exciting list of new ‘firsts’:
FIRST rally to use the newly remodelled Anglesey Racing Circuit.
FIRST ever access to the Duke of Westminster’s Eaton Hall Estate near Chester for a driving skills test, open to spectators in aid of charity.
CELEBRITY Paddy Hopkirk accompanies the event and will host a dinner and present awards.
FIRST ever access to Powis Castle Estate for a driving skills test.
SPECTATOR tests at Eirias Park (Colwyn Bay) Eaton Hall (Chester) and Anglesey Racing Circuit (Anglesey).
FANTASTIC SPECTACLE ON LLANDUDNO PROMENADE:
Thursday May 31st
The range of wonderful classic cars that are entered for the event is spectacular, ranging from 1920’s Bentleys through to 1970’s Ferraris... and all will be lined up early on the morning of Thursday May 31st for the judging of the ‘Concours D’Elegance’ competition, followed by the Start of the event, with cars leaving at minute intervals until shortly before 11.00.
‘I’d like to thank our sponsors CES UK and Quinton Hazell, as well as Conwy Council, Cadw, and all the hotels, restaurants, and other organisations like Penderyn Welsh Whisky who participate and help with their enthusiastic support’ said Ian Crammond. ‘It creates a wonderful positive atmosphere that makes this event so special’.
CES UK
Chester based CES UK return for a third year as Three Castles title sponsors in 2007, supported by Quinton Hazell.
CES UK was set up in 1984 by joint MDs, Howard Warren and Charles Colton. Both love anything to do with cars and motor sport and they share a passion for excellence. CES (UK) evolved as a result of these interests, aiming to offer the service level of a national company to the local garages in and around Chester.
Nowadays, it is the leading car parts supplier to the motor trade in North Wales too, with depots on Anglesey, in Llandudno, Rhyl and Porthmadog. With a further nine depots throughout the North West and Midlands area, CES dominate the local supply of car parts, Nationally, they specialize in the overnight delivery of exhausts and catalytic converters
The CES UK Three Castles Welsh Classic Trial
Now in its fifth year, the CES (UK) Three Castles Welsh Classic is a three day classic car event in the grand tradition that's actually three events in one - Concours, Regularity Rally, Driving Tests. Returning each night to Llandudno, it runs through the ancient landscapes of Anglesey, Gwynedd and Clwyd in North West Wales on the first weekend in June.
It runs this year from May 31st - June 2nd. The event has always attracted an international entry, and 2007 is no exception, with crews and cars arriving from a range of countries including Norway, South Africa and Switzerland.
