VX Racing on a roll to Croft

After a fantastic start to the 2007 season, VX Racing has vowed not to let its recent success go to its head when racing in next weekend’s round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Croft.

With the successful introduction of the all-new Vauxhall Vectra, putting VX Racing on top in both the Manufacturer and Team Championships, the team is hoping to repeat its success from 2005, when the Luton-based manufacturer scored two race victories at the North Yorkshire circuit.

VX Racing is confident of improving on its 2006 result at Croft when it left with two non-finishes, collecting just 30 points. 2007 is a different story, however, and with its current performance the team is hopeful of putting on a strong show at Croft.

After two consecutive wins for Fabrizio Giovanardi at Thruxton three weeks ago, which kept him right in the Drivers Championship hunt behind SEAT’s Jason Plato, the Italian is ready to battle for the lead next Sunday.

Qualifying at Croft Circuit starts at 15:45 on Saturday, 2 June 2007, with the first race at 12:01 on Sunday, 3 June 2007.

Fabrizio Giovanardi #5“The car is so good and you can do any set-up changes and rely on it to respond very well.

“I am so much more relaxed this year and very happy to race in BTCC. Croft should be another good result for VX Racing. I had solid point finishes at Croft last year and it’s a fun but tricky circuit.

“I don’t really care if I will be leading the Driver Championship after Croft as long as I’m in the lead at the end of the season.”

Tom Chilton #7“Croft is a purpose-built track for touring cars and it’s very fast. I was second in qualifying last year and it is very important to get a good set-up in qualifying as this will do most of the work for race day on Sunday. You need to find a balance to be good in both sectors.

“I am very confident in the car and I am sure Croft will be another circuit where we can pull off a good result. Hopefully we keep going as well as we are at the moment and keep scoring points.”

Ian Harrison, VX Racing’s Team Principal“We can’t say we are not doing well because we are good at the moment, but we mustn’t get ahead of ourselves. It’s only the third race weekend gone and a lot can change and happen; it’s still a long season to go.

“We are heading to Croft aiming to keep finishing in the points, staying out of trouble and continuing the car’s reliability, and then we will see how it turns out.”
