Jordan dominates in British Rallycross

Andrew Jordan dominated the third round of the Kumho MSA British Rallycross Championship at the Lydden circuit in Kent on Bank Holiday Monday (28 May), but was denied maximum points when the meeting was abandoned as heavy rain left the track flooded.Racing the 550bhp four-wheel drive Ford Focus built and run by the G-Tech team of former rallycross champion Will Gollop, 18-year old Andrew dominated the event, winning two of his three heats to claim pole position for the Supercar A final. He romped clear of the pack on the opening lap as two of his major rivals crashed while trying to match his pace. However, the event officials halted the race and the meeting was later abandoned as track conditions worsened. The heats had run in better conditions and Andrew was peerless, even though he was excluded from the second heat for allegedly putting four wheels off the track. It was a very marginal decision, but Andrew accepted the penalty and went on to dominate the third heat and make certain of pole position for the Supercar final. He ran side-by-side with former champion Dermot Carnegie into the first corner of the Supercar final, but then moved clearly ahead and made light of the conditions to pull away at between three and four seconds a lap until the race was stopped after Carnegie crashed heavily. Points for the Supercar series were awarded based on grid positions for the final, so Andrew took maximum points in that series. But he was denied the chance to take maximum British Rallycross Championship points when the rest of the meeting was abandoned in very heavy rain."It's disappointing not to get any British championship points, but we showed we were quickest all day, whatever the conditions," said Andrew, who now has a five-week gap in the rallycross calendar before the next event at Pembrey on 1 July.Andrew Jordan is supported by John Guest, Bill Gwynne Rally School and Pirtek.Andrew is an MSA British Race Elite Driver.
