Jordan takes another BTCC podium

Mike Jordan had another great weekend in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Croft (North Yorkshire) over the weekend of 2/3 June, taking a third and a fifth place and staying at the head of the Independents' Trophy points.Jordan's John Guest Speedfit-backed Honda Integra was right on the pace all weekend, even though Mike had expected the track to better suit the Super 2000 specification cars. In qualifying, the Team Eurotech Honda was seventh fastest. "We were pleasantly surprised with the pace of the car," said Jordan, after lapping only six-tenths of a second away from pole position and ahead of championship leader Jason Plato. In the opening race on Sunday, Mike had a great start to hold seventh and then jumped ahead of both Fabrizio Giovanardi and Tom Onslow-Cole on the second lap to take fifth place. Despite coming under pressure from Giovanardi in the closing stages of the race, Jordan was able to hold fifth and ran right on the tail of Darren Turner's works SEAT. "We had really good pace and I decided to be a bit circumspect. Darren didn’t make any mistakes and I was conscious that there wasn't much time before the second race if we had any problems. That was a good solid start to our day."Things got even better for the second race as Mike slotted into fourth place early on and, after a safety car period, was able to move ahead of Gordon Shedden to take third place. He raced right on the bumper of Turner once more and finished a fighting third, best Independent and headed only by the two works SEATs of Jason Plato and Turner. "It was outstanding to finish on the podium. I was right on Darren's back bumper all the race, but he drove fantastically well. He'd got it covered."For the third and final race, the reversed grid left Mike in seventh place and now carrying 27kg of penalty ballast. Up ahead was John George and he was trying to block the faster cars behind him as they headed for the fast Barcroft corner. "Gareth Howell was just in front of me got ahead of George into Barcroft. I was lining up to pass him at the next corner, but when Gareth went by him, George just stood on the brakes and nearly stopped in front of me. I managed to dive to the right to avoid hitting him hard, but I couldn't avoid hitting him. That flicked my car up and I thought I was going into the trees. It ripped the steering wheel out of my hands and I was an absolute passenger."Jordan was powerless to avoid bouncing across the grass and into the side of Howell. "It took me so much by surprise when he suddenly braked hard," said Mike. Despite considerable damage to the side of the Honda, Mike was able to rejoin and finish tenth, right behind Plato and Colin Turkington. "I can’t believe the car was still quick at the finish, because it took a really big hit."Despite finishing with a damaged car, it was another great weekend for Mike and Team Eurotech. "Even with success ballast on the car we were still strong," he said.
