Russell Racing heads to Oulton

Doncaster-based Russell Racing heads to the uniquely challenging Oulton Park Island Circuit in Cheshire next Saturday, 16th June, for the fourth round of the 2007 Formula Renault BARC Championship.Having seen 24-year-old Mark Gillibrand record his and the team’s first points of the season at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire four weeks ago during the second and third rounds of the campaign, the four-car FR2000 Class entrant is bidding to move further up the rankings at Oulton Park next weekend and claim its maiden top six result of 2007.The opening round of the season at Donington Park in late April was Mark’s first ever experience of a single-seater, having most recently competed in 125cc and 250cc Long Circuit Gearbox Karting, but the Manchester racer is certainly taking to Formula Renault BARC well and is improving every time he sits in the car.Russell Racing’s three other drivers, who are all still 16-years-of-age, compete under the Middle East-Russell Racing banner and head to Oulton Park each aiming for a maiden points finish.Essa Mohammed, Menasheh Idafar and Mohamed Al A’li are all of Bahraini origin and carry big hopes on their shoulders as they each bid to become major players in the world of single-seater motor racing.Essa and Menasheh, of course, have been with the team since the start of the current season but Mohamed was a new arrival into the BARC series at Croft a month ago. He immediately underlined his promise and pace though by lapping with times comparable to those of his countrymen. While Mark is confident he can firmly cement his position as a regular runner inside the top 10 during next Saturday’s race at the picturesque Oulton Park venue, his trio of Bahraini team-mates are also striving to achieve their first points of the year.Looking ahead to the fourth round of the season, Russell Racing owner Tim Russell commented: “Croft turned out to be a good weekend for us with Mark finishing in the points in both races, he’s consistently improving all the time and we’re confident he’ll enjoy more success at Oulton.“Essa, Menasheh and Mohamed have all been impressive so far. They’re close to top 10 pace already and doing a great job so early in the season. Oulton Park always provides good racing so we’re all looking forward to an exciting weekend.”Round four of the 2007 Formula Renault BARC Championship will take place at Oulton Park Island Circuit in Cheshire just over a week from now on Saturday, 16th June, with qualifying timetabled to start at 10.30 and the race itself, which will be run over 15 laps, expected to get underway at 15.15.
