Freke for Carrera Cup at Oulton

Nathan Freke, one of Britain's most promising young single-seater drivers, will make his Porsche Carrera Cup GB debut at Oulton Park next weekend (23/24 June) in rounds nine and ten of the championship. Freke will race the Porsche Motorsport entry as part of the strong links between the Carrera Cup GB and the McLaren/Autosport/BRDC Young Driver Award. Having won the 2006 UK Formula Ford title, the 23-year old Kidderminster racer was one of the six finalists in the award."I drove the Porsche as part of the Young Driver finals and I was absolutely amazed. I loved it," said Freke. "I maybe need to think about sports and GT cars as a career option, so this is a big opportunity for me."The pair of races at Oulton Park will be Freke's first races of 2007 after plans to race in Formula Atlantic in America faltered. "I'm still hoping to do something over there this year, but our main focus is now finding a single-seater budget for 2008. But I want to do well in the Porsche and try and open some doors, so it's going to be quite an important weekend for me."However, Freke knows that the opposition will be strong, with former single-seater aces Steven Kane and James Sutton currently setting the Carrera Cup pace with former BTCC champion Tim Harvey. "It’s going to be very tough and I'm short on experience in the car. But I'll give it my all and hope to get up amongst the quicker guys. I've only raced at Oulton Park once, but I absolutely loved it. It’s a real drivers' circuit."Freke will test the Carrera Cup car on Friday (22 June) at Oulton Park ahead of the weekend's pair of races.
