Battle continues at Oulton Park

The magnificent three-dimensional challenge of Oulton Park in Cheshire is the next destination for the Porsche Carrera Cup GB over the weekend of 23/24 June, in rounds nine and ten of the championship. As the title race reaches the halfway point, three drivers are establishing themselves at the head of the title race and the competition between Steven Kane, Tim Harvey and James Sutton is set to be intense at Oulton Park. However, a gaggle of quick drivers are chasing hard and with several new drivers joining the grid, it is set to be a great weekend for the 911GT3 Cup cars. After the most recent races at Croft, Kane (Motorbase Performance) has squeezed just four points ahead of Harvey (Red Line Racing), while a fantastic double win at Croft has put Sutton (Red Line Racing) only 11 points behind his team mate Harvey.Meanwhile, Michael Caine (Team Parker Racing) and Sam Hancock (Motorbase Performance) are still well in contention and Nigel Rice (Red Line Racing) is fending off Andy Britnell (Motorbase Performance) in the pro-am category.Kane needs to keep up the tremendous form that has taken him to the top of the points, as he knows that Harvey and Sutton will be strong at Oulton Park. "I’m looking forward to Oulton Park. I like the track, but I’ve only ever raced there twice," said Kane. "It’s going to be interesting to see what the Porsche is like round there."Of course, Harvey has rather more experience of the parkland track and is a former winner of the Oulton Park Gold Cup. "I've won quite a lot there in the past and I love the track," said Harvey. "It's a real old-style circuit!" Sutton, too, has raced at Oulton before but will be new to tackling the circuit in a 400bhp Porsche. However, his form to date points to the fact that James is a fast learner and his pace at Croft was outstanding.Caine and Hancock are working hard to chase the big three and know that they need to start taking points away from Kane, Harvey and Sutton to have a realistic shot at the title. Caine has bags of Oulton Park experience, but it is quite a while since Hancock tackled the Cheshire track. Rice will celebrate his 50th birthday the day before the Oulton meeting starts, so he will be keen to maintain his brilliant run of pro-am wins and give further cause to celebrate. To date, Rice has won seven out of eight times in the category and will be battling to get among the pro drivers once again at Oulton. Britnell, meanwhile, is eager to bring Rice's winning sequence to an end and is only 15 points adrift in the pro-am title race.Packing out the pro-am category will be podium contenders Charles Bateman (Team Parker Racing), Pete Osborne (Team O) and Colin Willmott (Willmott Racing), while Mark Stephenson (ABG Motorsport) and Maxi Jazz (Red Line Racing) should both join the Carrera Cup for the first time this season. With single-seater ace Nathan Freke also making his Carrera Cup debut in the Porsche Motorsport entry and at least one more driver to be confirmed, it is shaping up to be a great weekend at Oulton Park. The battle between Kane, Harvey and Sutton is set to run and run!
