ING Renault F1 Team Podcast Panel

Check out the post-Indy ING Renault F1 Team Podcast Panel

The latest edition of the ING Renault F1 Team's unique Podcast Panel is now on-line, with Technical Director Bob Bell and Executive Director of Engineering Pat Symonds analysing the North American leg of the 2007 championship.

Perceptive analysis and illuminating insight are always welcome when it comes to decoding the myriad twists and turns of a Grand Prix weekend. Away from the fleeting glimpses afforded on the TV coverage, what was the real story of a team's race? And taking a longer view, how did the last race fit into the team's season so far?

Those were the questions we fired at two of the best brains in the pit-lane, ING Renault F1 Team Technical Director Bob Bell and Executive Director of Engineering Pat Symonds, as they sat down for the latest in the new series of the ING Renault F1 Team Podcast Panel.

The 2006 FIA AMD Formula 1 fan survey showed last year that over 40% of F1 fans are likely to subscribe to F1 podcasts – while over 50% of people are looking for more behind the scenes features in the pits. With a large majority of F1 fans getting their news from the web, what better way to keep them informed than via one of the most popular modern communications technologies currently in use?

The ING Renault F1 Team Podcast has so far attracted over half a million listeners to its unique mix of spin-free insight and plain speaking. Available in English and French, it offers fans of the team and the sport across the world the opportunity to get the inside line on the team's battle to get back to the front of the F1 grid – as well as allowing team members to discuss the burning issues in F1 at the moment.

Furthermore, the podcast represents another important step in fan interactivity for the burgeoning community of F1 followers. A simple email to podcast@renaultf1.com allows fans to ask their questions to team members and have their views debated; alternatively, questions can be recorded as mp3 files and emailed in, allowing enthusiasts to literally become part of the broadcast.

In this week's Podcast Panel, Bob and Pat discuss the North American leg of the championship, including the resurgence in form for Heikki Kovalainen and Lewis Hamilton's stunning debut wins; the design trends of 2007, including how Renault fell off the pace at the start of the year – and what the team is doing to catch up; and they tackle the vexed questions of how to improve the racing in F1, what can be done about overtaking – and why it's more complicated than you might think!
