DfT accused of gross neglect

On the eve of Scrap Speed Cameras Week, Safe Speed accuses Department for Transport of gross neglect of our most precious road safety asset: driver quality.

Paul Smith, founder of SafeSpeed.org.uk, said: "It's perfectly clear to me that Department for Transport's road safety policies have failed because their impact on driver quality hasn't even been considered."

"I challenge Department for Transport to reveal any evidence at all that they consider the effects of their policies on driver quality."

"I challenge Department for Transport to reveal any evidence at all that they even have a working definition of the safe driving process."

"I accuse Department for Transport of GROSS NEGLECT of driver quality."

"With one fatality per 100 million miles driven, Department for Transport has absolutely no idea what the average driver is actually doing to avoid causing a fatality for 100 million miles."

"Clearly we need real road safety policies based on a proper understanding and clearly Department for Transport requires fundamental restructuring. But most important of all - Department for Transport must admit that they got it very very wrong."
