Kral takes his fifth win while Arundel takes Championship Lead.
Josef Kral (Double R Racing) claimed his fifth victory of the season while 2006 Rookie of the Year Henry Arundel (Fortec Motorsport) took the overall Championship lead for the first time with a solid second place in Round Nine of the Formula BMW UK Championship 2007.
"I made a very good start and managed to create a comfortable gap as the drivers were fighting for position behind me," said Kral. "This enabled me to ease off the pace and just get on with my own race. Another win is great for my Championship."
With a fifth win now safely under his belt, and the first non-finish of the season for Marcus Ericsson (Fortec Motorsport), Kral is now fast closing in on the Championship lead in third place just 16 points off Arundel.
Arundel commented: "I made a great start to move from fourth on the grid to second out of the first corner. The fight for third continued all race long, which gave me some breathing space. After being down the order in Friday practice I wouldn't have believed it if someone had told me I'd be leading the Championship only 24 hours later!"
Sixteen-year-old Ericsson had his first non-finish of the year, which cost him his Championship lead. "I had wheel-spin off the line which dropped me from first to fifth. I moved back to fourth and tried to make a move around the outside of Henry Surtees (Carlin Motorsport) into Lodge, but I ran out of road and ended up spinning back across the circuit," he said. "It was frustrating because I felt I was much quicker than the cars around me, but hopefully I'll be able to put things right starting from pole again tomorrow."
Adrian Quaife-Hobbs also spun out trying to avoid Ericsson and with the Swede's car coming to a rest across the circuit, the red flags came out.
Surtees' third position overall gave him the Rookie Cup win ahead of Carlos Huertas (Double Racing), who was sixth overall, and local driver Oliver Webb (Carlin Motorsport), eleventh overall.
With only 16 points separating the top three in the Championship and 45 on offer for a win, the stage is now set for tomorrow's race where everything could change once again.
