Adam Carroll and Jason Tahinci will begin tomorrow’s 41 lap Magny Cours GP2 feature race from 14th and 26th on the grid respectively for the Petrol Ofisi FMS International team. It was Adam’s first qualifying with the Italian outfit, and his first time in F1’s feeder series since September 2006.
The day began with a thirty-minute free practice session on the French circuit. Adam spent much of the time re-acquainting himself with the GP2 car and working on improving the set-up for the afternoon’s qualifying. Jason’s session was frustrating as after just two laps he was forced into the pits for a rear-wing change after a component from Giorgio Pantano’s Campos car flew off and hit the rear of the 23-year-old’s car.
In this afternoon’s qualifying Adam suffered with traffic on all of his hot laps. He was all set for a top eight grid slot on his last flying lap, setting extremely competitive times in the first and middle sectors, however, after losing time negotiating traffic on the final sector, he had to settle for a fastest lap of 1:26.426, putting him on the seventh row of the grid. Jason endured a difficult session and will start from the 13th row of the grid.

Adam Carroll: “Obviously you just have to go out and push as hard as you in qualifying. I’ve done lots of driving in GP2 before but it’s been a long time since I’ve been back and the track is a lot faster this weekend than it has ever been. I was really hoping to be in the top ten and we had the pace so it showed promise. Unfortunately on my second set of tyres I got two laps of traffic, which really didn’t help because we were looking at a respectable qualifying place. We just have to work hard to get ready for tomorrow now.”
Jason Tahinci: “The first two sectors for me were not too bad, but I was struggling in the final sector. We made some changes with the second set of tyres which were good, we were heading in the right direction, but I made a mistake on my quickest lap and nearly spun in the chicane, so unfortunately I lost a lot of time. If I can improve in the last sector, I will be much quicker.”
