Epton joins Carrera Cup GB

Experienced single-seater racer David Epton will race in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB after concluding a deal to race with Team Parker Racing for the remainder of the 2007 season. The agreement marks a full-time switch into sports and GT racing for the 26-year-old and he will make his debut at Donington Park over the weekend of 14/15 July. The Preston-based racer has chosen to place his single-seater aspirations on hold and will now concentrate instead on forging a successful career in sports car racing, with the first step being the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.“This deal signals the start of a new chapter for us, we’re very excited to be joining the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and especially with a team as successful as Team Parker Racing,” said David. “It’s an incredibly prestigious championship and one I’m very much looking forward to competing in. I can’t wait to join the grid!“Of course, being in Porsche means we remain on the BTCC support package which is of huge importance to our sponsors. The profile of the series is fantastic, the corporate hospitality in Porsche is second to none and the cars are obviously very identifiable to the general public which gives the championship incredibly broad appeal.”Following a successful karting career, Epton graduated into single-seaters in 2002 and raced extensively in Formula Renault before finishing runner-up in the 2005 Formula Palmer Audi Championship. David ending the campaign tied on points at the top of the standings and only missing out on the title by virtue of one less race victory on count-back.Epton is now bidding to follow the example set by reigning Carrera Cup champion Damien Faulkner and multiple race winner Danny Watts, both of whom have made highly successful transitions from single-seaters to the Carrera Cup.
