Another podium for Jordan

Mike Jordan scored another podium finish in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park over the weekend (14/15 July). For the fourth meeting in a row, Jordan's John Guest Speedfit-backed Honda was right on the pace and third place in the final race of the day – having led for seven laps during live ITV1 coverage – was a great result. Added to a fourth and a seventh place in the other two races, the weekend leaves Mike sixth overall in the BTCC drivers' points and leading the Independents' Trophy. It was a day of tremendous BTCC racing despite some dreadful weather, which made track conditions very difficult. But for Mike, it was his highest points scoring day so far in 2007.Race one started on a soaking wet track and from fifth on the grid Mike was quickly into the thick of the action. "I locked up at McLeans and had to make a split second decision," he explained. "I either had to pile-drive Matt Neal in the back and that would probably have got me round the corner as he'd have gone off and it would have slowed me down, or I had to dive to the gravel."He chose the second option and skittered across the gravel trap before rejoining, now in 14th place. "Even on the grass before I got back on, I was thinking it would be fun to see how many I could pass." Sure enough, he stormed back up the field as conditions got even worse and battled ahead of Jason Plato in a brave move down the Craner Curves on his way to fourth place, only losing third place to Matt Neal on the final lap. They changed the car a little bit for race two, but Mike ended up with too much understeer. Nevertheless, he took seventh place and that set up a fine run in race three. "We got a good grid draw of third place for the final race and got a reasonable start. Colin Turkington ran a bit wide at Coppice and I got under him," said Mike after taking the lead on the second lap."I did think for the first two or three laps that maybe I could get away. But then a bit of understeer set in and I was finished. Dave came on the radio and said it might be as well to let Plato past. If you've not got the pace, it's better to let them go and try and go with them," explained Mike."Then I think Plato missed a gear because he slowed and I went straight past him down the Craner Curves. But there was a huge puddle at the apex and I got on that and it allowed him to get a run on me at the lefthander before McLeans. I gave him a bit of room, but couldn't get back in the throttle and Matt Neal went past as well."Third place meant another trip to the podium and another victory in the Independents' Trophy to cap a highly successful weekend. "It was great because we were on the podium again. We didn't have the pace for a win today and you've got to be realistic," said Mike. "Leading the live TV race also means that our sponsors got some good coverage, so I'm very pleased."The BTCC action now heads to Snetterton in Norfolk over the weekend of 28/29 July.
