Kane heads Carrera Cup test

at SnettertonChampionship leader Steven Kane headed the times in testing ahead of rounds 13 and 14 of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Snetterton today (Friday 27 July). However, an interrupted second test session meant that not everyone posted a representative time and some of the leading drivers were unable to run on new tyres at the end of the session as originally planned. However, the top six drivers all lapped underneath the existing lap record.Despite driving with a sore back, Kane (Motorbase Performance) set the best time at the end of the day. Earlier, the afternoon session was halted after Maxi Jazz (Red Line Racing) spun off and it was then red flagged soon afterwards when series newcomer Iain Dockerill (Chad Racing) dropped coolant at Sear. “There was still fluid down, but you just had to drive through it,” said Kane.Second fastest, having run new tyres earlier in the session was Michael Caine (Team Parker Racing), but he was cautious about the true pace of some of his rivals. “That’s not really a fair reflection and we’ve got a bit of work to do,” said Caine at his home track.James Sutton and Tim Harvey were third and fourth fastest for Red Line Racing, but neither was able to set a time on new tyres. “I did one out lap, saw the fluid and called it a day,” said Sutton. “The car was absolutely fine and we were quick on old tyres,” said Harvey. “We’re all very close on old tyres.” Sam Hancock (Motorbase Performance) and Jon Barnes (Team Parker Racing) completed the top six, both running strongly to dip under the lap record.Less than a second away from the overall fastest time and leading pro-am racer was Nigel Rice (Red Line Racing), with another tremendous performance as he lapped well inside the 1m10s barrier. Second in pro-am was Andy Britnell (Motorbase Performance), another to miss out on a run on new tyres. “I’d just gone out on new rubber and it was very slippery, so that was it,” said Britnell.Charles Bateman (Team Parker Racing) was third in the pro-am times, coming back strongly from his accident at Donington. Like team mate Barnes, Bateman was ready to attack on new tyres when the session was halted and the team opted not to risk going out again on the still slippery track. Pete Osborne (Team O) was well in touch for fourth in pro-am, while guest racer Ian White (Porsche Motorsport) was just outside the top 10 times along with series returnee Steve Clark (Team RPM).Porsche Carrera Cup GB results - Date: Friday 27 July 2007 - Venue: Snetterton
