It’s the final act of the year. The Show: Drag Racing - the fastest motor sport on earth. The Stage: Santa Pod Raceway - the home of European Drag Racing. The Event: the Final Round of the FIA Championship. The Stars: 8000hp Top Fuel Dragsters!
Before each race the drivers complete a show-stopping rolling burnout, lighting up the rear tyres to clean them, warm them and delight the crowd. Every race is a knock out, the first across the line goes forward, and the loser is eliminated. The rules may be simple but the racing is fast and furious. These monster machines pack more power than 5 of Lewis Hamilton’s Formula 1 racers and reach 300mph in around 4 seconds.
Each year the tour starts in the UK before heading for rounds in Finland, Sweden and Norway. The cast is lead by Britain’s “bad boy” Andy Carter – a real crowd favourite together with the charismatic Micke Kagered (Sweden), the blonde heroine Siw Nystad (Norway) and sports star Janne Ahonen (Finland) who is a former double world ski jumping champion! Over 25,000 fans are expected to head to the famous Santa Pod drag strip for 4 days of non-stop action.
Alongside the FIA classes there is also a full line up representing the National Championships, plus unlike most other motor sport experiences, you’ll get to see both cars and bikes competing at the same event! Drag bikes are hugely popular competing in their own prestigious UEM Championship with three classes, including the jaw-dropping Super Twin Bikes when you’ll witness thundering six second, 200 mph performances!Aside from the racing you’ll witness demo shows from the fire-breathing Jet Car plus car-crushing action from Santa Pod’s very own Monster Truck – Podzilla! It’s fun for all the family (Kids under 16 go FREE*) with aerobatic displays, kids entertainment, side-shows, traders, a fun fair and full catering/bar facilities with live bands in the evenings!
