Porsche Racers Back to Points Chase

The Apex Tubulars Porsche Club Championship returns to action at Brands Hatch with the title challengers still eager to score points and win the Porsche Carrera Cup prize drive in 2008. With each class scoring equal points, Neil Harvey from Class Three heads the title chase, just nine points clear of Class One's Mark McAleer, with Marcus Carniel third and heading Class Two.

McAleer has been battling with James Neal for race wins this season, his front-engined 968 CS taking on the classic Porsche shape of Neal's 964. Theory says that the rear-engined cars have an advantage off the start line - so watch for the cars to be well mixed lunging into Paddock Hill Bend on the opening lap.

Neal took a win last time out at Spa - a circuit new to McAleer - with Paul Livesey also taking a victory at the famous Belgian venue. In the non-championship round at Silverstone two weeks ago Alex Eacock took his first outright win after stepping up to Class One this season, and the genial racer will be keen to repeat that form at Brands. Unluckiest man in Class One must be Tom Segrue who has led races only to be denied victories by a variety of reasons.

The Class Two cars should get amongst the outright leaders around the Brands Hatch, and Carniel will be out to regain his form of Spa which saw him take second overall in the opening race. Ben Demetriou has been a thorn in his side in recent races and claimed a class win last time out.

Class Three has seen some closely fought battles between Harvey and newcomer Mark Taylor. The class often provides some of the tightest racing, Dave Roberts and Charles Winterhalder also racers to watch for.

The Porsche Club runners have the first qualifying session of the day on Saturday at 9.00 in the morning, with two 30-minute races at 11.30 and 17.15.
