Review - Frédéric Vervisch
The sixth weekend of the ATS F3 Cup in Assen promised to be a difficult one. Last year it already became clear that the Lola B06/30 was at a disadvantage on this track in comparison with the Dallara chassis’. This time it wasn’t much different.
In spite of early difficulties Frédéric Vervisch was able to qualify second for the first race of the weekend. In the second timed practice Vervisch had to be content with fourth place. “Our set-up isn’t good and we have not enough grip”, Frédéric told after practice.
After a bad start in race 1 Frédéric was involved in an accident with Christian Vietoris. However, the driver of JB Motorsport was able to continue and held his second place. Race leader Carlo Van Dam benefited from the incident to increase his lead, but Fred closed in on him very quickly. He put the Dutchman under pressure. When he finally made an overtaking move in the first corner, the Lola went straight ahead onto the dirty part of the track. “The tyres picked up a lot of dirt and at first I had some difficulties to follow Van Dam. But after a few laps, I was already under his rear wing to finish second. Despite our problems we proved to be fast and that is important too.”
In race 2 Frédéric made an excellent start and fought for second place with Bruins Choi into the first corner. His rival had to change his line and therefore forced Fred off the track. He fell back to fifth place behind Chinosi. After a nice battle with the Italian, Frédéric moved into fourth position. Then he went in pursuit of Vietoris, but the German defended his position and Fred saw the chequered flag in fourth
For the next round of the ATS F3 Cup is again visiting Assen. The races of the German Formula 3 will then be held in course of the Dutch Champ Car Grand Prix. “It won’t be easy”, Frédéric explains. “This circuit isn’t our favourite one and that will not change in forthcoming weeks. Nevertheless I’m still optimistic.”
But before the next F3 races in Assen, Frédéric will participate in a VdeV race in Spa-Francorchamps during the RMU Classic. He will drive in a Norma M20 Sports Prototype of JMP Racing.
