Turvey to join Carrera Cup

at Brands HatchOliver Turvey, the 2006 McLaren/Autosport/BRDC Young Driver of the Year, will make his Porsche Carrera Cup GB debut at Brands Hatch this weekend (18/19 August) in rounds 15 and 16 of the championship. Turvey will race the Porsche Motorsport entry as part of the strong links between the Carrera Cup GB and the prestigious annual award that spotlights the best young talent in British motor racing."I'm really looking forward to it," says Turvey. "I've never raced a car with a roof, but I drove the Porsche during the Young Driver evaluation at Snetterton late last year and I was really impressed. I drove the car in both wet and dry conditions and really enjoyed it. There are some very good drivers in the championship, but I want to try and be on the podium at Brands."The 20-year old from Cumbria started racing karts at the age of eight and enjoyed extensive success before graduating into cars in 2003. Since then, he has raced in Formula BMW, Formula Renault and Formula 3 and was runner-up in the Formula BMW UK Championship last season before being confirmed as 'Young Driver of the Year.' He is currently racing in the Formula Renault Eurocup and is third in the championship after six of the 12 races.Turvey will test the Carrera Cup car on Friday at Brands Hatch ahead of the weekend's pair of races.
