Beechdean at Silverstone

The fifth round of the British GT championship at Silverstone.

After not making the race at Snetterton, due to engine problems and crashing out of the first race at Brands Hatch, Andrew Howard brought the Beechdean Ferrari home to take a third place in the second race; much to the delight of the team after working all night to get the car ready. The team left Brands Hatch with renewed vigour and the belief that the championship was still within their sights and the championship moved to Silverstone for the next 2hour race.

Saturday 11th August

Qualifying – With Aaron Scott away winning a Brit Car race, the whole 30min qualifying session was left to Andrew Howard. He managed to put the Ferrari 3rd in class behind the championship leading RSS Porsche and the surprisingly quick Track-speed car.

Sunday 12th August

Race Day – With the return of Aaron to the team the mood was hopeful of another Beechdean victory. Andrew started the race after an engine drama on the out lap. He lost a place to the flying Morgan Aero 8 and maintained the gap to 5th for the rest of his stint. The team called the car into the pits for the driver change and re-fuel at the 45min. Credit must go to the guys, who did a fantastic job of refuelling both the Beechdean 360 and race winning Christians’ in the Motorsport Ferrari 430.

Not long into Aaron’s race an oil pressure warning light came on and the car made an unscheduled 2nd pit stop, this stop put Aaron out the fight for a race win and left Beechdean to pick up 3rd place, after the Morgan developed a problem towards the end of the race.

Beechdean will need to perform well at Thruxton in a week’s time to ensure that the title is still in their hands. The weekend could throw up a number of surprises due to the high speeds and very abrasive track, which has forced Avon Tyres to make a one off tyre for the circuit. So  with 12 points to the leading car in the championship and 1 point to 2nd Beechdean will be planning to claw back some points!
