Team Modena Confident Heading for Spa

Team Modena head to the famous Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium this coming weekend (August 17th / 19th) for the latest round of the Le Mans Series, their Aston Martin DBR9 ready for the challenge of a testing 1000km race round the classic track. LM GT1 class front-runners in recent races, Team Modena driver pairing Antonio Garcia and Christian Fittipaldi will be aiming for another strong performance at a circuit both know well and where they have tasted success.

Both drivers have experience of endurance racing at Spa, which features some of the most famous corners in motorsport, particularly the high-speed Eau Rouge that leads on to a long uphill straight. Garcia was one of the driver pairing who took the team's Aston Martin - chassis number 101, the first customer DBR9 - to second in class at in last year's LMS round at Spa, while Fittipaldi has previously won the Spa 24-Hours race at the circuit.

"We had a good run there last year," said Team Principal Graham Schultz, "and we are very confident of a good result this weekend. It's a great circuit and we have two experienced drivers who are working together well. The car has been completely stripped down since the Nurburgring race and it is 100% ready for Spa."

The team have three one-hour Free Practice sessions on Friday and Saturday before a 20-minute qualifying session on Saturday afternoon. The 143-lap race is scheduled for 12.30 on Sunday - with a maximum duration of six hours.

The six-race Le Mans Series is for cars complying to the same technical regulations as the Le Mans 24-Hours race, with races of 1000km duration making them true endurance events. The series visits classic European circuits such as Monza, the Nurburgring, Spa and Silverstone before finishing in Brazil in November at the Interlagos circuit.
