Priaulx Hatches Brands Preview Plan
Current World Touring Car Champion, Britain’s Andy Priaulx, will make a guest appearance at Brands Hatch tomorrow (Sunday) in preparation for his races there next month. The two-time World Champion will spend the day at the circuit, giving interviews and passenger rides as well as mentoring drivers in BTCC's support race, Formula BMW.Priaulx is yet to win a touring car race at Brands Hatch and with this year’s championship running as close as ever, the Team BMW UK driver is leaving nothing to chance. “I’m doing some passenger rides but it’s not really something I can use to my advantage,” said the 33-year-old. “You have to use the pits every time so we’re not doing full laps of the track making the advantage I could have from this weekend minimal.“It’s a shame because one of the passengers is F1 presenter Louise Goodman and I’m sure I could have set a competitive lap with her in the car – She’s a lot lighter than the success ballast I’m used to in the WTCC!“I’m determined to get a good result on 23 September. Brands Hatch hasn’t been a very lucky circuit for me but I will definitely have a go! I can’t promise a win, although I would love to get a double victory like James Toseland did there a few weeks ago! It’ll be nice to get at least one win on home ground in any case.”Currently third in the WTCC Championship behind fellow BMW drivers Jörg Muller and Augusto Farfus, Priaulx is only two points away from the lead on 56 points. Britain’s other two drivers, Alfa Romeo’s James Thompson and Chevrolet’s Robert Huff are eighth and ninth respectively with 36 and 32 points.
