Bank Holiday Porsche Club Action at Cast
Castle Combe on Bank Holiday Monday is the venue for latest rounds of Apex Tubulars Porsche Club Championship, two races in a day at the Wiltshire circuit offering the series regulars ample opportunity to score championship points. Two wins at Brands Hatch for championship leader Mark McAleer have put him in control at the top of the table, but his rivals - both from within Class One and down the order - will be keen to reign his lead in.McAleer was chased home by the similar 968 CS of Tom Segrue in both races at Brands Hatch, and their battle will be resumed at Combe, where both drivers put in strong performances last season. Other Class One runners on a run of form include Paul Livesey - who won at Spa in June - and early season championship leader James Neal, challenging the others in his rear-engined 964.Castle Combe has been kind to Class Two runners in recent seasons, Marcus Carniel claiming pole in his 911 SC ahead of the Class One cars last year. In recent races the class has seen epic battles between Carniel and Ben Demetriou's 944 S2, and the pair will be closely matched on Bank Holiday Monday.Neil Harvey heads the points in Class Three, and headed the series overall before a non-finish in the first race at Brands dented his championship charge. Class rival newcomer Mark Taylor took advantage to snatch another win and the pair have been closely matched across the season. Charles Winterhalder has been edging closer to the pair, just failing to reel in Harvey in the second race at Brands.Brands Hatch saw the first points scoring run for a Class Four car in the new for 2007 category, Robi Bernberg and Steve Winter sharing a 911 in the class for cars conforming to the FIA's Appendix K register.
