Scottish track next stop

as title race reaches critical point

There are less than two weeks to go before Britain’s premier motor racing series – the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship – ventures north of the border for its only race meeting of the year in Scotland, at the Knockhill circuit in Fife on Sunday 2 September.

Tens of thousands of Scottish BTCC fans are expected to cram into the spectacular Knockhill venue near Dunfermline to watch Britain’s top teams and racing drivers in what will be the championship’s penultimate three rounds of the 2007 season. The event is a major date in Scotland’s sporting calendar and will receive live television coverage on the day on both the ITV4 and ITV1 channels.

Adding to the excitement, the race for the UK’s most coveted motor racing title is at a critical stage with SEAT’s Jason Plato and Vauxhall’s Italian ace Fabrizio Giovanardi now separated by just four points at the top of the Drivers’ championship standings.

But the biggest cheers on race day are likely to be saved for Scotland’s own BTCC hero Gordon Shedden who, with three race wins so far this season in his Team Halfords Honda Civic, arrives at his home track still with an outside chance of being crowned Champion. Shedden, from Dalgety Bay, is third in the championship, 78 points behind Plato with a maximum of 104 still on offer.

Tickets for Knockhill’s BTCC race day action can be purchased at a discounted price if booked on the circuit’s website .knockhill.com

Adult admission is just £23.00, concessions £14.00 and children aged 8-11 just £6.00. Admission for children aged 7 and under is FREE.

Prices include access to the BTCC paddock and the specially-organised ‘Pit Lane Walkabout’ session when the public – including children – is invited to meet the BTCC’s drivers for autographs and giveways.

In addition to the BTCC’s penultimate three rounds on Sunday 2 September, the Knockhill crowds will see the latest action from the high-profile supporting BMW, Porsche and SEAT race championships. Completing an 11-race bill, there will also be action from the Legends series. And the action will not just be limited to the track – overhead, there will be a thrilling air display from ace stunt pilot Jim McTaggart in his Starduster bi-plane.
