Another WTCC point for Monteiro

in Germany following two turbulent racesFIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) Germany - Oschersleben

The race weekends are passing by but none of them seem the same for Tiago Monteiro, official driver with SEAT Sport, who took part this weekend in his 7th meeting of the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) at Oschersleben (Germany). After being the most prolific driver at Anderstorp (Sweden) with 11 points and a podium, Tiago still brought one point after two highly eventful races and 35 extra kilos of ballast. The driver of the SEAT León No. 18 car, Tiago had a good start in the first race, managing to avoid the series of collisions in the first lap that resulted in the safety car coming onto the track. Once the race resumed, Tiago held onto a promising 8th place and adopted a very fast pace, earning him the second fastest race lap time. The Portuguese driver was assured of a point and a pole position in the second race when Roberto Colciago ran into the back of his car. Under the shock, the rear end of the SEAT León No.18 car crumpled, severely damaging the right rear tire. Tiago was forced to cross the finish line in 10th place, which was then the position he took up on the starting grid for the second race. With a blazing start in the afternoon race, Tiago rapidly moved up to 6th place and battled for 5th, when he proved himself too daring at a corner. He lost two places in the misadventure and returned to the track in front of Alex Zanardi, whose tires were less worn than his own. Tiago used every trick in the driving science book to hold off the Italian and cross the finish line in 8th after putting on quite a show, to the delight of the spectators. Next event: Brands Hatch (UK), September 22-23.
