Jordan wins Rallycross thriller
Andrew Jordan stormed to victory in round six of the Kumho MSA British Rallycross Championship at Lydden on Monday (27 August). By beating Pat Doran in a mighty contest in the final, Andrew has extended his championship lead with two rounds left to run.Racing the 550bhp four-wheel drive Ford Focus built and run by the G-Tech team of former rallycross champion Will Gollop, 18-year old Andrew (Lichfield) was in stunning form and won his first two heats to make certain of pole position for the A final. However, pole position puts the car on the dirty side of the track where cars come off the gravel section and Andrew didn't get the best of starts. Doran drove a strong race and, knowing that he didn't need to take any risks trying to win the race, Andrew took a measured second to ensure his place in the all-important Superfinal. The start of the Superfinal was dramatic as at the first corner Andrew's car was hit from behind by Ollie O'Donovan, which pushed the Focus into the car of George Tracey. All of this allowed Doran to take a useful lead and Andrew was back in third behind Steve Mundy. But Andrew quickly regained second place and set off in pursuit of Doran. He quickly reeled in the race leader and then set about finding a way into the lead. Under immense pressure from Jordan, Doran made a mistake and ran wide and that was all the opportunity that Andrew needed to dive ahead and pull clear on the final lap for a great victory."Lydden hasn't always been particularly lucky for me," said Andrew, after thrilling the fans by climbing onto the roof of the Focus to celebrate a mighty victory. "To come from behind and beat Doran in a clean fight is just what I wanted to do."Andrew has now extended his overall lead in the Kumho MSA British Rallycross Championship, with just two rounds left to run. The penultimate round is at Mondello Park in Ireland on 14 October. Andrew Jordan is supported by John Guest, Bill Gwynne Rally School and Pirtek.Andrew is an MSA British Race Elite Driver.
