Red Line Racing expands into Supercup

Red Line Racing will mount a major two-car assault on the Porsche Supercup in 2008 as the British team takes on the might of the German teams in the Grand Prix support race championship. The Cleveland squad, headed by Simon Leonard, has confirmed extensive backing from IRWIN Industrial Tools for the campaign and already re-signed Belgian ace David Saelens to spearhead the squad. Now, Leonard is looking for the right driver to partner Saelens in an all-out bid for the prestigious title.“We’re looking for a title contender to make Team IRWIN the strongest in the Supercup. This is a fantastic opportunity for a British team to run a full two-car squad and we want to challenge for the title. We intend to be very competitive and we’re proud to be the British team in Supercup.”“Porsche is a fantastic brand and that fits very well with the IRWIN brand. First class tools and a first class car,” said Leonard. “This is our third year with IRWIN and we’ll have both cars in full livery.”Leonard’s team has already enjoyed extensive success in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, including winning the 2004 title with Richard Westbrook. “The grounding in Carrera Cup has allowed us to make the step. It’s what all the teams aspire to do and the Carrera Cup GB is a fantastic championship. It has taught us a lot and made us ready for this challenge.”The identity of the second driver will be announced in due course and the team plans an extensive test programme over the winter ahead of the opening two races of 2008 at Bahrain in April.
