Westbrook/Faulkner finish one-two

in Porsche SupercupRichard Westbrook and Damien Faulkner have finished one-two in the 2007 Porsche Mobil Supercup following the final race of the season during the Belgian Grand Prix meeting at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium (Sunday 16 September).Westbrook retained the title he won in 2006, while Faulkner finished runner-up in his first season in the Supercup. Both drivers graduated into the international series after winning the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and paid tribute to the role of the British series in preparing them for success in the most competitive and prestigious one-make race championship in the world."Without learning my trade in the Carrera Cup GB, I'd not have done it," said Westbrook, the 2004 Carrera Cup GB champion. "The Supercup is hard enough because you've got to learn the circuits. If you know the car already, you can just concentrate on the tracks. If you are trying to learn the car as well, it's just impossible. It's a really good stepping-stone that Porsche has created and my advice to any one wanting to do Supercup, is go and do Carrera Cup first."I'm now paid a salary as a professional racing driver. I look at my bank statement at the end of every month and money comes in, rather than go out! It's nice to get to that stage in Supercup; teams do pay to get the right drivers. Doing what I did in Carrera Cup GB has certainly made that possible. It gave me the platform to come and show my skills in the Supercup."Faulkner also paid tribute to the Carrera Cup GB, in which he rescued his racing career by winning the title in 2005 and again in 2006. "The Carrera Cup GB got me back into racing, as I was effectively gone. I did have a year when I didn't race. I probably tried to rely too much on the talent that I had and wishful thinking, and that's not enough," said Faulkner."The first opportunity came with the guest car in 2003 at Mondello Park and I'll be eternally grateful for that. There are so many good things about the Carrera Cup. First of all, it is a Porsche championship and has instant recognition. Then, there is a natural progression into the Supercup."The Supercup is such a great platform for me and it was the Carrera Cup GB that got me here. The success that Richard and I have had in Supercup just proves the level in the Carrera Cup and it's great to have an international series with the same specification cars as the UK series. The European teams can relate to that. The fact that I've been winning races and challenging for the title in my first year in the Supercup is all down to the competitiveness of the Carrera Cup GB."
