The 2007 Apex Tubulars Porsche Club Championship reaches its climax at Brands Hatch this weekend with the final two races of the season - and the last opportunity for the title contenders to score vital championship points. Drivers from three different classes are all in with a shot at the title and the prize of a one-off drive in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB next season.
With dropped scores now effecting driver's totals, Class Three's Neil Harvey leads Mark McAleer by just two points with a total of 335, with Ben Demetriou just three points further back. With 40-points on offer for a class win, each of the title challengers will be out to take the maximum score from the weekend - which provides the series with its biggest stage of the year as a support race to the World Touring Car Championship at what should be a packed Brands Hatch.
McAleer has been a race winner in Class One all season, with close rival James Neal providing stiff opposition, Neal's more traditionally shaped 964 always quick off the line. McAleer won both races at Silverstone two weeks ago in a hired 968 CS after his own car had been destroyed at Donington Park just five days earlier, and the Yorkshireman will be in determined mood at Brands Hatch.
In Class Two both Demetriou and Marcus Carniel have proved capable of running with the overall leaders and either of the pair could take the title, Carniel fourth in the overall points and just 13 points off the lead. Brian Robinson proved at Donington Park that a Class Two car can win outright, and the class battle will be as tight as that for the overall race victory.
Harvey's 911 SC has been challenged hard in Class Three by rookie Mark Taylor, with Charles Winterhalder gaining pace in his 944 as the season has progressed and Dave Roberts a consistent points scorer. Harvey went off last time the series visited Brands Hatch, but has raced quickly and sensibly all season, often gaining places on the opening lap, and is in pole position to win the class and claim the overall title.
There will be two 30-minute qualifying sessions for all competitors on Friday, September 21st, with the first 30-minute race at 14.15 Saturday, and the final round on Sunday at 17.05.
