Carrera Cup GB title showdown
Three drivers line up for Carrera Cup GB title showdownThree drivers will go into the final weekend of the 2007 Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Thruxton (October 13/14) with a chance of winning the championship title.James Sutton (Red Line Racing) currently has 302 points to the 292 of his team mate Tim Harvey and the 280 of Steven Kane (Motorbase Performance). With a maximum of 43 points on offer over two races at Thruxton and all scores to count, any one of three could finish the weekend as champion. Here are their thoughts on the season to date:Q and A: James Sutton (302 points)What were your pre-season expectations?"I think any expectations I did have, I exceeded long ago. I looked at Tim’s pace on the media day and thought ‘this is going to be hard work’. We’ve had a fantastic season and wouldn’t have expected anything like this and I’m pleased to be in the situation I am now with two races to go."What are your thoughts on Thruxton?"I got two thirds at Thruxton in the spring. We’ve got quite a bit of pace there and we went back in August for the official test and we were quickest. We’ve got a good set up there and I like the circuit."What has Carrera Cup 2007 meant to you?"Doing Carrera Cup has completely changed my career. We’d done the standard single-seater route and there was a stage last year when my career was completely stagnant. We came into Carrera Cup and all of a sudden my career has moved at a million miles an hour. So many opportunities have opened up for us because of the results we’ve got. If I’d plugged away at another season in single-seaters, I wouldn’t have got a tenth of what I’ve got now. It’s been the best career move I’ve ever made and this has been the best springboard that I could imagine."Q and A: Tim Harvey (292 points)What are your thoughts on Thruxton?"Thruxton is a very difficult place to hold the finale and I think there is another chapter to be written in this championship. We don’t know what the weather will be like in October. All these things go into the racing and that's what makes it so exciting."What has Carrera Cup 2007 meant to you?"After Donington, I honestly thought I was out of the championship. I was so far behind. But we've persevered and luck has gone our way. Sometimes in the past it has gone against us. We're in with a shout and that's all you can ever ask for. You do have to have a little bit of good luck, and generally I've never had that."Q and A: Steven Kane (280 points)What were your pre-season expectations?"The deal was put together pretty late and I think if I’d had a bit more time in the car I could have done a better job at the first Brands."What are your thoughts on Thruxton?"I went well at Thruxton in the spring. I’m quite fast there, so we can only go and see what it brings. It’s tricky, because you don’t have the testing the day before and you go straight into qualifying. There’s no more sitting back and I like it when it’s like this."What has Carrera Cup 2007 meant to you?"It’s been a complete change of tack. I’m very pleased that I chose Carrera Cup for this year. The cars are great to drive and it’s been great fun. I want to try and carve myself a career in sports and GT racing and I think Porsche is the best brand to do it with. The racing’s been good and it’s not over yet. With the British guys doing so well in Supercup this year, it’s a great advertisement for the Carrera Cup GB. It shows that the standard here is pretty good and we’re setting faster lap times than they did last year. I hope to do Porsche Supercup at some point. This has been a very sensible move for me."
