The World Series by Renault Organizing Committee has presented the main features of the 2008 Sporting Regulations to the teams. Up to fifty drivers will be able to take part in next year's Eurocup. A Superpole session and a qualifying race will be used to determine the best drivers for the races.

2008 race calendar

The Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 will be held over seven meetings (featuring fourteen races), as part of the World Series by Renault in Belgium, Turkey or Italy, Germany, Hungary, the United Kingdom, France and Spain.

Participation in the Eurocup

Up to 50 entrants will be accepted by the Organizing Committee. Drivers will only be allowed to take part in one national Formula Renault 2.0 championship. Any driver not entered for the full season may only take part in a maximum of three races.

Meeting format

Thursday: Three hours of collective testing at three meetings (tbd)

Friday: Two 30-minute collective test sessions

Saturday: - Two 15-minute qualifying sessions (field split into two groups) followed by a 15-minute Superpole session for the top 24 drivers - A qualifying race of 15 minutes + 1 lap for those drivers who have not qualified for the Superpole session - One Eurocup championship race of 25 minutes + 1 lap

Sunday: One Eurocup championship race of 25 minutes + 1 lap

Start grid

- Qualifying race: Drivers that record the 13th best time in each group will start on front row, pole position going to the quickest. Each group will line up behind the 13th quickest driver. - Race 1: The top 24 drivers will line up according to their best time in the Superpole session. From the 25th quickest, drivers will line up in the order in which they finished the qualifying race, with the total number of cars being limited by the homologation of the circuit. - Race 2: The top 24 drivers will line up based on their second best time in the Superpole session. From the 25th quickest, drivers will line up in the order in which they finished the qualifying race.

Prize money and awards

The top three drivers will be invited to take part in a Formula Renault 3.5 test in November 2008. The winner of the Eurocup will also receive a €200,000 grant to finance participation in the World Series Formula Renault 3.5 in 2009.

More than €50,000 will be available in prize money over the course of the season (14 races, €3,650 per race).
