Spa trip to wrap up Heritage GT season

The seventh and final weekend in the season for the Charterhouse Heritage GT Car Challenge will take competitors to one of the finest race circuits in the world with a date at Spa-Francorchamps (13/14 October). It's been a tremendous season for the series, with huge grids, thrilling racing and rave reviews from the race fans. These cars come from an era when power exceeded grip, and with the bigger cars running 4-litre, 5-litre and even 6-litre engines, oversteer is the norm in Heritage races. Now comes the trip to the legendary Belgium track, with a pair of races to conclude the 2007 season in style. With some of the regular pacesetters not present, the way is open for some new names to takes the glory, although the Morgan Plus 8 of Rick Lloyd/Peter Horsman is going to set the bar very high for those chasing victory. The combination of Lloyd and Horsman in the hugely rapid Morgan should be the crew to beat, and the big challenge is set to come from the mighty Aston Martin V8 of Chris Scragg. As his very busy season of racing comes to a close, Scragg will go into the Heritage races well up to speed at Spa, as he is racing there the previous weekend as well when he contests the Classic Six Hour race.Other challengers for a place on the overall podium include the Aston Martin DBS V8 of Bob Searles, who will be partnered by Boysie Thurtle for the first time in what will be a very strong driver line-up. Boysie has plenty of experience in this type of car, and they could well be chasing the Morgan and Scragg's Aston in the overall standings. A podium visit is also within reach for Ian McCallum and John Bussell in the former's Aston Martin DB5.In Class A for Classic Saloons, Gordon Streeter will use his extensive Spa experience to great effect in his impossibly quick Ford Anglia, while Class B for the Mildly Modified cars should be headed by the Morgan Plus 8s of Tony Lees and Martin White. Joining White in making the lengthy trip from Ireland to race at Spa will be the Triumph TR6 of Dubliners Richard and Jonathan White. The Lloyd/Horsman Morgan is the car to beat in Class C for full race cars up to 4600cc, while the Astons of Scragg and Searles/Thurtle top Class D for full race cars over 4600cc. Also contesting class D is the Ford Mustang of father and daughter Robin and Zoe North and the Mustang of Andrew Knight. The very potent VW Golf of Richard Cooke/Simon Verschueren will head the Invitation Class, while three new classes have been added to the mix for this event. With the vast Spa grid able to accommodate over 60 cars, additional classes for Caterhams, BMWs and Lotuses will add to the spectacle. And, of course, the notoriously fickle weather in the Ardennes region can really shake things up!
