Woodcote Trophy season

culminates in thrilling finale!

The Fiskens-sponsored Royal Automobile Club Woodcote Trophy rounded out a hugely successful season in fitting fashion at Spa-Francorchamps at the weekend with a thrilling battle for overall honours, settled only by a photo finish!

The race, organised by Motor Racing Legends for genuine post war sportscar-racers of the pre-1956 era, couldn’t have been closer between the Maserati 300S driven by Burkhard Von Schenk and Gregor Fisken and Jaguar D-Type of Lukas Huni and Gary Pearson, with just 0.013 seconds separating them at the chequered flag following one hour of racing.

Starting from pole, Fisken and Von Schenk looked to be in control having pulled out a lead of around 30 seconds two-thirds into the race. However a stunning stint from Pearson in the Jaguar saw the Maserati’s lead whittled down to nothing in the final 20 minutes, with the Englishman snatching victory at the line by the tiniest of margins.

Fiskens’ Managing Director Gregor Fisken admitted that the race was a fitting end to a spectacular season for the Woodcote Trophy, which the historic automobile dealership has sponsored for the past two seasons. “It was a shame to lose but it was an absolutely brilliant race and the weekend was one we’ll always remember. The weather was fantastic, the grid was world-class and the racing superb. It was a fitting end to the season and I’m certain that the Woodcote Trophy will continue to go from strength-to-strength in 2008.”

Fiskens also supported the pre-war sports car race at Spa, won by Belgian Hubert Fabri in his Alfa Romeo 8c Monza, which proved to be another huge success.

Gregor commented: “The pre-war race, which as a company we also had the pleasure of supporting, was another fantastic contest. We saw one of the best pre-war sportscar grids ever assembled at Spa, with Hubert taking a fine home-win in his beautifully prepared Alfa Romeo.

“All in all it was a fantastic weekend and congratulations go to Duncan Wiltshire and his Motor Racing Legends team for putting on such a fine show to end the season.”
