Myerscough College Motorsports are delighted to announce that 18-year-old Alex Jones will be driving for them next season.
Alex has a good pedigree with many big wins in karting including the British O-Plate TKM Championship in 2006, GYC Champion and the 2005 MBKC GYG Club Championship just to mention a few. He has also shown excellent promise since stepping up a class with a recent victory in the Zetec class at the British Formula Ford Championship round at North Yorkshire’s Croft Circuit on Sunday 9th September. That race was only his first in the Zetec Van Diemen Formula Ford car, run by Myerscough’s Motorsports technical team, who are all degree students currently studying at the College.
Myerscough Principal Ann Turner was on hand to watch Alex and the team at the Croft Circuit and commented: “I was amazed at how much talent Alex has and obviously we are delighted to have him driving for us. It was also great to see the superb skill with which the Myerscough technical team operated.”
Alex, from Angelsey, will be taking a gap year out of University next year as he pursues his dream of becoming a professional driver. The British Formula Ford Championship has been, for many years, the stepping-stone to Formula 3 and other senior classes including Formula 1 Grand Prix. As well as driving for the College, he is also seeking out sponsorship support to help with the increased budget required to be fully competitive in the series. His career to date has largely been funded by family income with the valuable help of a few local sponsors.
