Rallycross confusion at Mondello Park
Will Gollop and Mike Jordan have called for the results of round seven of the Kumho MSA British Rallycross Championship to be nullified following a day of confusion at Mondello Park in Ireland on Sunday (14 October).Andrew Jordan went to the Irish venue leading the championship at the wheel of the 550bhp four-wheel drive Ford Focus built and run by the G-Tech team of former rallycross champion Gollop. However, after the organisers combined rounds of the Irish and British championships, which run to completely different regulations, the points situation is in a state of total confusion and the final round of the season is due to run at Croft this weekend (21 October)."Before the event we asked if the event was being run to the regulations of the MSA British Rallycross Championship," said Mike Jordan. "We were informed that that would be the case. We now believe the whole British element of the meeting was not run properly and that the only solution is to nullify any points that may be awarded."The problems centred on combining two very different championships into one set of finals. Not only do the cars from the Irish and British championships run on different tyres, the process for qualifying through to the final is totally different."You can't run a British championship round to Irish championship regulations. We are calling on the BRDA to nullify the points. I feel very strongly about this," said Jordan. "We are prepared to take this matter as far as it needs to go to see that fair play is done."On the track, Andrew again set the pace among the British contenders, with a win and two seconds in the heats. But on the first lap of the Super Final he was forced off the track at the first corner and was then hit again on the opening lap, which damaged the suspension of the Focus and left him struggling home a frustrated fifth.
