Jordan takes third in rallycross final
Andrew Jordan finished third in the final round of the Kumho MSA British Rallycross Championship at Croft on Sunday (21 October) and must now wait to see if he is crowned MSA British champion. In the next couple of weeks the championship stewards will consider the outcome of the title contest following confusion over the penultimate round of the season at Mondello Park and so the destiny of the overall title.Andrew (Lichfield) was racing the 550bhp four-wheel drive Ford Focus built and run by the G-Tech team of former rallycross champion Will Gollop. The 18-year old went into the final championship weekend needing to finish two places ahead of Ollie O'Donovan to make sure of the title, regardless of the stewards deliberations. The competition started well for Andrew, with a win and a second place in the heats. The fact that his heat win was achieved in the fastest heat time by a massive five seconds guaranteed him a place in the Supercar Final and so he elected to use the third heat only to make a practice start.Unfortunately, in the Supercar Final Andrew made his only mistake of the season when he spun while chasing O'Donovan for the lead. He fought back into contention to finish fourth and frustratingly watched O'Donovan surrender the lead with a transmission problem. That put Andrew fourth on the grid for the all-important Super Final and he got a great start to challenge for the lead on the rush to the first corner. However, veteran Per Eklund defended hard and Andrew was squeezed back into third place behind Dermot Carnegie and Eklund. O'Donovan chased him home in fourth place, which may well prove to be a crucial result."We needed one more car between us and Ollie O'Donovan to be certain of the title," said Andrew. Currently, he is now two points behind O'Donovan in the championship standings and must wait for the championship stewards' decision on the points allocated at Mondello Park to know the final outcome.Andrew Jordan is supported by John Guest, Bill Gwynne Rally School and Pirtek.Andrew is an MSA British Race Elite Driver and a BRDC 'Rising Star'
