Trio Confirmed For Winter Cup

Three more drivers have committed to the 2007 ELF Renault Clio Winter Cup, which gets underway with rounds one and two at Donington Park National circuit on Saturday, 3rd November. Robertshaw Racing will run SEAT Leon Cupra R Class champion Harry Vaulkhard (Jesmond), T-Cars front-runner Joe Hopkins (Shepshed) will partner Chris Law (Guernsey) at Team Pyro, while Árón Smith (Rathfarnham) continues his career with Mardi Gras Motorsport after finishing 13th in the 2007 ELF Renault Clio Cup.

Vaulkhard had four wins in 2007 as he won the class title by just four points. He follows Jonathan Fildes (Co Meath) and Ben Winrow (Earls Barton) in making the switch to ELF Renault Clio Cup racing in 2007 with a permanent move in 2008 a possibility with the Whitley Bay-based team.

Hopkins joins fellow teenager Chris Law at Team Pyro and is looking to build on the success he has enjoyed in his debut season in the T Cars Championship. Registering 10 podiums and one fastest lap from 14 races so far, he is in line to finish as vice-champion to Daniel Brown, younger brother of Clio Cup racer, Robert.

Smith, 17, enjoyed a consistent season in his first year of car racing. The Renault Insurance-backed brother of former British Touring Car driver Gavin Smith had a best result of fourth in the penultimate round 11 at Thruxton, starting on the front row of the grid for round 12.

The four-round ELF Renault Clio Winter Cup begins at Donington Park on Saturday, 3rd November, concluding at North Yorkshire’s Croft circuit on Saturday, 10th November. Each meeting will see one qualifying session and two races held on the same day, with the Formula Renault UK with Michelin Winter Cup taking following the same schedule.
